Our Mission

MilTech provides hands-on, industry experienced product design, engineering samples and manufacturing expertise to help the Federal Government accelerate the transition of technology to the U.S. warfighter and help the U.S. Government with technology transition spin in and spin out.

We are a DOD Tech Transition Partnership Intermediary established in 2004 and a DHS Partnership Intermediary since 2019 focused on:

  • Cost, Design, Engineering Samples, Tech Scouting, Manufacturing, Manufacturability and Vendor Capability
  • Leveraging the NIST MEP for DOD, DHS and other U.S. Government Departments and Agencies Tech Transition

WHAT IS MILTECH?

MilTech is:

  • A Nationwide Partnership Intermediary (PIA)
  • Established in Law by Congress
  • Managed by OSD, Defense Laboratories Enterprise
  • Located at Montana State University
  • A fee for services program

We proactively seek out qualified vendors based on a defined criteria we establish with our customers, and through primary and secondary research we establish a shortlist of potential vendors to utilize.
Miltech Highlights
  • Completed over 580 projects for DOD
  • Managed over 76 projects for DOD customers in GFY2022
  • Supported over 190 different DOD customers
  • Brought over 470 vetted and qualified non-traditional / small businesses to answer DOD requirements
  • Helped over 33 companies become NIST 800-171 compliant so they can continue to support DOD
  • The only university-based mentor in the AF Mentor Protégé Program, successfully mentoring over 3 protégé companies
  • Provided expertise to DOD at more than 50 events such as limited and full user evaluations (LUEs) (FUEs), field training exercises, engineering sample review efforts, training sessions, and working conferences

OPERATIONAL INFORMATION
We assist government labs, program managers, operational units, and integrated product teams with technology scouting, critical design, engineering samples, and manufacturability expertise. We identify the right technology, design and industry partners to take an idea to a fully tested and vetted engineering sample ready to be produced. We serve as the “Honest Broker,” for the government when working with industry during the development phase of technology maturation and transition.
